It is with honour that I accept the position of Chairperson of the Mission Heights Primary School Board of Trustees (BoT). I am passionate about the education of the students of MHPS, and very much looking forward to contributing to the future growth and development of the school.

I have come to the new Board of Trustees, accompanied by a dedicated team, and together we will do our best to assist the school with its vision. In doing so, we hope to foster a sense of pride in the association between Mission Heights Primary School and its community. The members of the previous BoT and Principal Mrs. Veena Vohra have made tremendous progress in relation to both the establishment and reputation of the school. On behalf of the parents and the new board, I would therefore like to thank them all, acknowledging their efforts.

As a result of the school’s outstanding progress to date, as well as the continued growth of the area, the government has recently approved the second phase of the school’s building project. Once completed, the new building will cater for eighteen additional and much needed classrooms, enabling our school to keep up with future growth demands. The construction is expected to commence at the start of Term 4 2009 and completed by August 2010.

Warmest wishes,

Dr Udaya Madawala
Board Chairperson- MHP

I am Indian. I was born in the UK and emigrated to New Zealand 7 years ago. I have a Degree in Business Studies and a Masters in Finance both obtained from Universities in the UK. Prior to immigrating to NZ I worked as a tax Inspector for the Inland Revenue specialising in Corporation Tax in the UK.

I currently manage all aspects of accounting, taxation and payroll for a McDonald’s franchisee. I also part own a bar and restaurant in Manukau and believe this has given me valuable business experience.

I have two children at the school. Aaron in year 4 and Priya in year 2.

I am also an active member of Mission Heights family and friends committee and make myself available to help at all organised events held by the school.

My hobbies include cooking, and reading. I also love entertaining friends and family.

As a school trustee I look forward to maintaining a high level of governance especially in the field of finance, meeting the expectations of the community and exceed the national education standards. I believe primary school should provide the foundations to enable students to develop a love of learning, form strong lasting friendships, developing strength of character and achieving excellence in all we do.

I have lived in the Howick area all my life, so therefore have done all my schooling in the local area. I have also continued my working life in the local area where I worked as a Qualified Nanny, had my own business as a Nail Technician and now work as a Travel Consultant for my father's local business.

My hobbies include reading, embroidery and spending time with my wonderful family.

My husband, three children and myself moved to Mission Heights nearly four years ago, and have really enjoyed watching our community grow. We were excited for our children to become foundation pupils of Mission Heights Primary, which my husband and I had the privilage of also doing in our primary school years.

I have been a Board Member since July 2007, when I was Co-opted onto the Foundation Board. I am honoured and delighted to become Deputy Board Chair and also hold the Property Portfolio on our newly elected Board.

I am also currently Chairperson of the MHP Family and Friends Committee.

I am really looking forward to the next three years working closely with our other Board Members, our wonderful Principal Veena Vohra and the rest of the school community to help our children continue in Growing Excellence.
