Principal's Message
As the foundation principal of a school that is at the forefront of educational change and innovation in New Zealand, it is both an honour and a privilege to extend a very warm welcome to each and every one of you as you visit our school's website. This website provides a comprehensive account of our programmes, forthcoming events, enrolment and school information. It is also a key learning management resource for our school's learning community where students, teachers and parents can access learning resources, forums, and online reporting of achievement and ongoing learning zone activities.
Together, with the collective commitment of our dedicated staff, students and our new school community to 'Growing excellence', Mission Heights Primary School came to life and gave meaning to the Establishment Board's founding vision for 21st century learning on a bright crisp morning on 4 February 2009. It was an exciting, anxious and historically a very important day for us that I will always remember. As we move into the second year of operation in 2010, the multitude of challenges and opportunities that our foundation staff and students experienced to provide innovative and evolving educational programmes to support the school's vision for personalised learning are forever etched in our history.
Our commitment to create a community of active and creative learners where every child matters is to ensure that in years to come our school curriculum and programmes will enable students to grow into caring, confident and knowledgeable individuals who are infused by our school's curriculum, culture and values of respect, responsibility, inquiry and excellence . Establishing the Abilities, Curiosities and Essentials (A.C.E.) programme early in our foundation year is a testament of our school's strong commitment to personalised learning for future years. With a deliberate focus on literacy, numeracy and essential research and knowledge skills , we hope to empower our students to shape their own learning from an early stage using effective technologies to go beyond the school’s boundaries to access information, expertise and resources.
We have grown from being a school of 176 students in February 2009 to nearly 300 in February 2010. It is now a year since we opened and all our learning spaces in Stage one are operational . Planning and construction of our stage 2 buildings is well underway to complete our building plan to accommodate 700 students in future years.
As the founding principal of a school that is at the forefront of 21st century learning, my aim for us is to work with our new and growing community in providing the very best education for our students as we continue to envision for the future new paradigms in education and learning technologies.
I look forward to meeting and working with you all in the creation of a great learning institution at Mission Heights Primary.
Veena Vohra (Mrs)
